Members of Bexar Country ARES learned more about the Red Cross - Emergency Communications Response Vehicle (ECRV) 4707 on July 9, 2007.

This vehicle is a self contained communication platform that offers a level of communication redundancy and sophistication that is rarely seen. It provides an excellent example of what equipment that every emergency communication first responder should want to know how to use.

Two HF/VHF/UHF amateur radios (an Icom 706 and a Kenwood TS-2000) plus a satellite Internet data link can provide world wide voice and data communications from anywhere. The HF gear connect to either the SGC Whip on the side of the vehicle, a Tri-Band beam that can be built and mounted on the 52 foot mast or a fan dipole. Power is supplied by a 8500 watt A/C generator that is connected to the vehicles diesel engine.

ECRV 4707 is providing an outgoing fax line and internet connectivity for the Red Cross support staff at a temporary location on the north side of San Antonio.
